"When we take responsibility for our own learning, and share with and listen to others, we gain renewed energy for our work and learn more about our students in the process." the two sisters.
This Blog page has been created as part of my TeachNZ sabbatical project, 2014. It is simply a space for me to put my findings and ideas to refer back to as I go back to set up DAILY 5 in my classroom.
It is somewhere to store ideas/resources which I can/have made for my classroom.
I feel very lucky to have the sabbatical during Term 2, 2014...... my first real break from teaching for 30 years. I am excited about the time I have and to really spend some time reading about reading and the "Daily 5" and "Cafe" that has been put together by the Two Sisters Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.
I am a teacher who is passionate about Literacy and I am always looking for ways to grow, learn, collaborate and refine my teaching to enhance my daily programme and the learning that occurs within it so when I was introduced to "the Daily 5" at a SENCO cluster meeting, I couldn't wait to find out more about i it and implement it within my classroom.
In my proposal I indicated that I was researching this topic to implement in a Year 7&8 class. Since then there been a few changes for me. Firstly, during 2014 I am teaching in a year 5 & 6 class. Secondly, the team I am working in this year is implementing the MLE phylosophy as during the year .(..not Term 2) our classrooms are being gutted and rebuilt as a MLE.
So, there are also other challenges to be thinking about as I read about Daily 5/Cafe.
1. How can these structures complement/work within the MLE phylosophy
2.. In 2015, how will it impact on the Year 7 & 8 class I will be teaching who will already have worked in our Y5 &
6 MLE.?
I have created this Weebly as a record and place to gather of the notes, resources, findings, photos I have taken from my readings, my observations, my wonderings and experiences during my sabbatical term.
I also hope that this Weebly will provide: a collection of ideas and resources for teachers as they move
into teaching "Daily 5".
- notes and a collection of resources for me to revisit, add to, so that I am
able to refresh my thoughts and ideas around Daily 5 when I need
to focus on establishing- re-establishing this within my classroom.
